"The Vanilla Coast" - or SAVA Region
The "Sava" area derives the name from its four principal towns, Sambava, Antalaha, Vohémar and Andapa.
A lack of good road access from other regions, combined with barriers of rugged mountains and thick rainforests, makes the area a region of its own. The region is easily accessible by air with regular services into Sambava and Antalaha. |

Agricultural Wealth The SAVA region is well known for being one of the world's major vanilla producing areas, plus it has the nation's largest coconut plantation (Soavoanio). These two crops make with Sava region one of the wealthiest rural areas in Madagascar. Visit the plantations, small-holders and processing factories to see all aspects of these two agricultural industries. |
